Do you have your kids @name?
It used to be that those occasional feelings of parenting pride came from surprising the little ones by making their favourite meal or leaving a note in their lunch bag.. and fear note I still do those things. But the really rare moment of thinking for once ‘I have been a hero for 30 seconds’ came this morning when my nine year old Bella wanted to start tweeting… I felt a wave of satisfaction and anticipation as my girl ventured into the world of twitter with me safe in the knowledge that her tweet name along with her email address had been safely logged many months ago just so it would be there when needed… phew.
Got me thinking though what’s going to happen next…? Will people have to do domain name checks now before babies are even born? “what about Bob…. well it’s taken on twitter, FB and Posterous but we could call him Bob but with a zero instead of an o… etc etc… “
Now I’m kind of kidding as firstly there will be a whole lot of new code and functionality emerging faster than those new digital natives do but really… how important is your online authenticity/ consistency going to be in the future… I guess we’ll just have to watch this space.
